SIP004: The Final Oath

Summary

This SIP proposes the formal sunsetting of Oath Pledges, which have fulfilled their final purpose as fusion activators, and the establishment of a renewed VIP Oath as the long-term premium Mutant Cartel experience and activation layer.

Historical Pledge Oath benefits:

  • Free merch and discounts on merch

  • IRL event access

  • Boring Security classes

  • Serum City game pass

  • Fusion activator

  • $SERUM allocation

The proposal introduces:

  • A structured wind-down for Oath Pledges

  • A tiered burn-to-$SERUM mechanism

  • A pathway to VIP Oaths

  • A simplified structure for Oath holdership

  • Fully retires legacy claim infrastructure

  • Migrates VIP Oaths into a new, final collection

  • Sunset the ability to renew a Genesis Oath

This SIP ensures fairness by:

  • Acknowledging different levels of Oath usage

  • Rewarding holders who preserved unused Oaths

  • Providing clear exit or progression paths

  • Strengthening $SERUM as the terminal value layer

Proposed Mechanics & Timeline

1. Mechanics and infrastructure (Month 1)

  • Mechanics and infrastructure developed and launched by Novel Labs

2. Oath Pledge Sunset (Months 2-4)

  • Oath Pledges are formally designated as legacy fusion activators

  • Oath Pledges will have no mechanical utility beyond this SIP

  • Holders may choose from the wind-down options below

3. Tiered Burn of Oath Pledges for $SERUM (Months 5-7)

Oath Pledges may be burned in exchange for $SERUM, with burn rewards tiered based on historical usage:

  • Unused Oath Pledges

    • Receive a higher $SERUM allocation upon burn

    • Reflect the fact they were never consumed as fusion activators

  • Used Oath Pledges

    • Receive a lower $SERUM allocation upon burn

    • Acknowledge that their function has already been realised

Additional conditions:

  • Exact burn rates are defined and capped by Serum Corp

  • Conversion tables are published prior to activation

  • Burned Oath Pledges are permanently removed from circulation

4. Progression to VIP Oath (Months 5-7)

  • Oath holders may exchange 12 Oath Pledges for 1 VIP Oath

  • Exchanged Oath Pledges are burned

  • This pathway is optional, non-reversible, and permissioned

5. VIP Oaths – Premium Membership & Activation Layer (Post Month 7)

VIP Oaths are formalised as a permanent Mutant Cartel premium membership asset and the successor activator for future MCW mechanics.

VIP Oaths provide:

  • Activation eligibility for future MCW initiatives

  • Giveaways

  • Highest level of seasonal $SERUM allocation

  • Priority access to narratives, pilots, and experiments

  • Enhanced Hideout Reputation

  • Distinct visual and social identity

  • Exclusive access to VIP experiences

  • VIP role and channel access in Discord

6. Post-Sunset Stage I: Wind-Down of Legacy Fair Claim Page (Post Month 7)

Following the Oath Pledge sunset:

  • The original Fair Claim page used to upgrade Genesis Oaths to the newer token standard will be permanently closed

  • This claim mechanism has been live for approximately three years and has fulfilled its purpose

  • No further upgrades or claims will be possible once closed

  • Any unclaimed Mutant Cartel Oaths will remain unclaimable thereafter

This step ensures:

  • Removal of outdated infrastructure

  • Elimination of long-term technical debt

  • Finality for legacy Oath formats

7. Post-Sunset Stage II: New Claim for VIP Oath Collection Migration (Post Month 7)

To future-proof VIP holdership:

  • A new VIP Oath collection will be introduced

  • Holders of the current VIP Oath may:

    • Burn their existing VIP Oath

    • Claim one (1) new VIP Oath from the new collection

Key principles:

  • This is a 1:1 migration

  • Burning is mandatory to claim the new VIP Oath

  • VIP Oaths act as the premium activation, reward, and experience layer asset

8. Post-Migration State

After completion:

  • Oath Pledges no longer exist as active assets

  • Mutant Cartel Oath claim infrastructure is retired

  • A single VIP Oath collection remains

Funding

  • All required funding will be approved and allocated by Novel Labs

  • No external capital or community fund raises are required

  • No funding is required from Oath holders to participate in burns or claims beyond standard network gas fees

Novel Labs will fund the components listed below:

1. Oath Pledge Burn Mechanism

  • Smart contract logic for:

    • Tiered burn rates (used vs unused Oath Pledges)

    • $SERUM allocation and caps

  • On-chain verification of historical fusion usage

  • Testing, auditing, and deployment

2. Ranked Member → VIP Oath Conversion

  • Burn-and-mint contract flow

  • Permission checks for Ranked Members

  • Supply tracking and safeguards

3. Legacy Fair Claim Page Wind-Down

  • Front-end updates to:

    • Disable legacy claim functionality

    • Display final notices and countdowns

  • Backend and contract-level deactivation where applicable

  • Monitoring during shutdown period

4. New VIP Oath Collection & Claim Page

  • Deployment of the new VIP Oath contract

  • Burn-to-claim migration logic (1:1)

  • New claim interface and UX

  • Clear canonical labelling to avoid collection confusion

  • Updated art for the new VIP Oath NFT

5. Communications & UX Support

  • Clear in-app messaging

  • Documentation and FAQs

  • Dashboard indicators for claim windows and deadlines

Success Metrics

  • High participation in burn or conversion paths

  • Clear reduction in circulating Oath Pledges

  • Adoption of VIP Oaths as activation layer

  • Positive sentiment around fairness of burn tiers

Further context on the Oaths…

Introduced in March 22 as the first project to champion $APE. Sold for 28 $APE with free merch equal to the value of sale accompanying all purchases.

VIPs were randomised as a ratio of 1:7.

The second utility came via a combination of guaranteed, free, and discounted MH Collars. A mint that went to global #1 on all chains and 100x within a month to create our first six-figure sale.

Four years of exclusive parties around the world, activations, giveaways, whitelists, free mints, and partnerships followed.

The Next Chapter initiative - that we started in 2026 - aims to consolidate our ecosystem into an immediately clear and sustainable reason to onboard.

Really hurts for the people who bought burnt oaths to get access to future things. This will drop that value huge.
